Doctors of BC Medical Museum

About the BC Medical Museum

In 1962 the BCMA formally adopted a proposal to begin acquiring artifacts for a medical museum. The museum also assumed responsibility for the collections of artifacts previously acquired by the Vancouver Medical Association.

The museum mandate, as described in the Doctors of BC (BCMA) Constitution, is to collect and preserve medical artifacts of members of the profession. The museum’s holdings of approximately 2600 items illustrate medical practice in British Columbia and include instruments and other equipment used by physicians in the province over the last 150 years.

The museum’s website, with its interactive database, was launched in April 2008, with financial support from the Irving K Barber Learning Centre at the University of British Columbia. All images and resources contained within this website are copyright of the Doctors of BC (BCMA) and may not be used without explicit permission.
